Imagine being able to earn credits toward a degree - without having to pay full price. This is about to become a reality, thanks to today's launch of "Open Educational Resource University" at Thompson Rivers University. Global scholar Sir John Daniel was on hand for the launch of the ground breaking web portal today. The aim of the new program is to include students who might otherwise be excluded from the formal education system. It will cost students an admin fee - about 25% of a regular tuition fee - to have assignments marked. But the price is much lower, making it the cheapest way to earn a degree. TRU is the first Canadian university, and one of 31 post secondary institutions worldwide, to sign on to the online school that allows students to earn credits toward a degree - for free.
