Pro-Ajax Petition Pops Up
Those in favour of Ajax want their voices heard as well
Last Updated: Sunday, March 24th, 2013 | 10:37am PDT Story by: Tara Gostelow

In response to an extremely popular petition posted on www.change.org in opposition to the Ajax Mine, a similar document supporting the venture has popped up. Caroline King with the "Support Ajax Mine" group on Facebook, has launched the petition "Kamloops City Council: Consider the development of the Ajax Mine". In three days, 300 signatures have been left in support of King's pro-Ajax stance.

"It's definitely not about competing with the other side. I mean, a good opposition is a good thing, but we also just want to be able to say that we're here and we also want to be heard. We're a group that really wants to see the mine go in and we think it's important that all the people that are going to be making those decisions see that there's another side to this."

Steve Knudson's petition on www.change.org asking council, MLAs and MPs to oppose the project had almost 2,000 signatures as of Sunday morning, just over a week after he set it up. He is opposed largely over environmental concerns. King says she wants the mine because she believes every viable economic option for the city needs to be explored. She wants to remind those who have forgotten that Kamloops was a different city in the 1980s before mining was so big.
