Coquihalla crashes overnight
One accident leads to another
Last Updated: Thursday, March 7th, 2013 | 11:49am PST Story by: Sandy Hall

Kamloops Rural RCMP were kept busy around dinner time Wednesday night responding to several crashes on the Coquihalla south of the city.   Staff Sergeant Doug Aird says the roads were icy and snow-covered near the brake check around 6pm. The first involved a northbound  Chevy Cobalt that went off the road after striking some debris from a previous crash.  Aird says the driver and 2 passengers left the scene after calling a tow truck -- but before the vehicle could be  removed

a Toyota RAV SUV ran into the back of the Cobalt.   Luckily no injuries resulted.

Officers also came upon a jackknifed semi in the Inks Lake area - the driver reporting he'd been travelling slowly but his brakes locked up.

The semi had extensive damage but the driver was uninjured.

Police are reminding people to drive to conditions which are more wintry in the mountain passes than in Kamloops.
