Venezuela's Hugo Chavez dead
Controversial socialist leader loses fight with cancer

      Venezuela's vice president has confirmed President Hugo Chavez has died after a 2 year battle with cancer.  Chavez went to Cuba in mid-December to undergo a fourth round of cancer surgery, and had not been seen in public since. Chavez  led the South American country for 14 years - declaring a socialist revolution in his country, and leading a campaign against US influence.  He and those closest to him long claimed the United States was behind a failed attempt to overthrow him in 2002.   Until an election can be held Vice-President Nicolas Maduro will step in as interim president
